Most of us have heard that the O'Reilly Family Event Center, being built behind Springfield Hall, will host Drury Athletics, but it's also going to host other exciting events.
Myra Miller, director of the O'Reilly Family Event Center, along with her four interns, has been busy planning events for the building and the promotion of those events.
The O'Reilly Center is scheduled to be completed in September of this year with a grand opening that will include 10 events in the 10th month of 2010 - that is, October.
Among those events are concerts, a Panther Run to benefit Care to Learn, and Hoops Hysteria during the basketball season.
Miller has made formal bids to both "The Fray" and "Chicago" for the end of October, but neither band has confirmed at this point.
The Drury community will get priority when it comes to ticket sales with a discount price and availability before tickets go on sale to the public.
Concerts aren't the only special events in the works for the O'Reilly Center.
"One of my interns is also working on putting together a list of comedians that students would like to see perform on campus," said Miller.
Miller also said that student input on events is very important and urges students to submit their suggestions to her by phone at 873-6381, e-mail at mmiller1@drury.edu, or by contacting interns Tyler Goss, Brad Lyons, Sam Pirtle, or Kelly Ross.
Much smaller than MSU's Hammons Center, the O'Reilly Center will cater to a different audience with its events and planning for those events is a different process.
"It's a fun and busy time. We really want this to be a community building - a Drury building - for students and the rest of Springfield."
The O'Reilly Family Event Center will seat 3,100 and is set to open on September 1, 2010.
Students and the community can find out about events through promotions via television, radio, posters and direct mailing.
