The second season of DU Uncut is underway as Drury students continue the production and showing of the live music show that gives local musicians a platform to display their talent to a diverse public. DU Uncut is now broadcasting to more than just the Drury community with programming on KOZK (Springfield), KCPT 2 (Kansas City), OETA (Oklahoma), AETN (Arkansas), and HEC-TV (St. Louis). The show is produced under the leadership of Video Production instructor and DUTV/DU Uncut advisor, Brian Shipman.
DU Uncut is produced entirely by Drury students with the support of professionals in the field. The musicians on the show come from Dallas, St. Louis, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Memphis. This is a unique opportunity for these musicians whose music may never be heard on commercial radio, to share their work. DU Uncut gives these musicians have access to major markets in Arkansas, Kansas City, St. Louis, and the Ozarks.
The show is one hour in length and features 14 artists. The production takes place in a television studio on Drury's campus using five cameras, two professional audio engineers, integrated media and studio production students, and Pro Tools software.
The filming sessions are completely free to the artists and according to the agreement Drury has with the artists, the video can be used however the musicians would like, thus giving the artists a financially beneficial, professional opportunity.
"The local bands or artists that perform for DU Uncut get free performance video that they can use for whatever, really, particularly promotional material for a new CD, on their own web page, and sometimes for an event at which they are going to perform," said junior, DU Uncut systems manager, Jared Hall.
The artists play from a variety of genres and backgrounds giving the show a unique flavor. To date, over 140 bands and artists have performed on the show.
"It ranges from blue grass to rap and everything in between. We even had a children's choir from Uganda perform," said Andrea Cramer, Drury senior and host of DU Uncut.
