German food proves satisfying

One of the baked goods that I enjoy seeing in the bakeries is Christstollen. It is a heavy bread-like cake made with dried fruits, nuts, and spices and is covered in powdered sugar. Seeing it in the bakeries is an indication of one thing, Christmas is fast approaching! So, hooray! The Germans are already preparing for Christmas. Back in September one of my German flatmates introduced me to the wonderful world of German Christmas food and now I cannot get enough of it. I find it impossible to pass the Christmas aisle when at the supermarket. I can just taste the cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and citrus ingredients!
Some of the foods that have become my favorites are the Lebkuchen, Marzipan, and Spritz. Try googling them and seeing what they are about.
I have always enjoyed trying food from different cultures and will definitely search for German food when I get back to the States. Luckily for me, we have Aldi in Springfield, which is a German-owned company. I have become very familiar with Aldi here in Lüneburg and know it will be a place that I will visit often when back in the U.S. As Christmas approaches, go to Aldi and look for some of the Christmas foods. I am interested to know what kinds of German foods they will sell in the States. For now, Guten Appetit and bis bald!
