Death penalty movie
Amnesty International at the Moxie
Greta Brown
Issue date: 9/30/09 Section: Life
In the past, Drury's chapter of AI has hosted several speakers and panels, ranging from exonerates to family members of individuals on death row. The group has also showed movies, as it will this Thursday on the death penalty and torture. They have also been involved in discussions with the campus group Ponder.
The movie night at the Moxie is the main death penalty planned so far for this year. AI is also excited to welcome Sister Helen Prejean for convocation. Sister Prejean has been an influential advocate for abolishing the death penalty. AI will also be helping Missourian's for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (MADP) host a dinner for Sister Prejean for the evening she will stay in Springfield.
If students are interested in becoming involved, contact Mackenzie Love at mlove@drury.edu. To become involved with the death penalty, the best way is to, "First, educate yourself. Rent movies from our library, sign up for the MADP email updates, visit the Amnesty website (www.amnesty.org)," Love said.
At the Death House Door at the Moxie will show Thursday, October 1 from 6:30-8:30(ish) PM and is FREE for Drury students. Pay attention for more death penalty awareness events as the year continues.
