Hughes/Van Arkel take 2nd

Drury University's first men's and women's track and field squads had second place finishes by Geoff Hughes and Case Van Arkel at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in the outdoor meet here on Saturday, hosted by Indianapolis at the Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
Hughes turned in a time of 3:58.41 for a second place finish in the 10,000 meter and Van Arkel (14:57.86) was second in the 5,000 meter for the Panthers. Chris Yates was fourth in the 10,000 meter (32:09.73) and Matt Van Arkel was 10th in the 10,000 meter (33:08.58).
For the Drury women, Sara Murzynsky placed fifth in the 800 meter (2:22.08) and Tia Young was 10th in the 3,000 meter (11:03.26).
The Drury women placed eighth in the nine team field and the men finished seventh. Indianapolis captured both the men's and women's 2009 team titles.
