Drury University's men's golf squad sits in a tie for 15th place after the opening round of the NCAA-II Midwest/South Central Super Regional played Monday at The Meadows Golf Course.

The Panthers shot a 301 total and are 22 strokes behind leader Wayne State (278) after 18 holes in the 54-hole event. Central Missouri is in second place (287), nine strokes behind Wayne State and four ahead of Northeastern State (291). St. Edward's and Ferris State are tied for fourth at 292.

Sophomore Thomas Hay shot an even-par 71 and sits in a tie for ninth, while sophomore Andrew Funk had a 73 and is tied for 23rd to lead the Panthers. Steve Cuzzort of Wayne State opened with a 4-under-par 67 and has a one stroke lead over teammate Joe Juszczyk in the individual title chase.

Other Drury scores from the opening round were a 78 from freshman Nathan Fredrick, a 79 from sophomore Kyle Martin, and an 80 from junior Sam Steelman.

The top five teams in the 20-team field, plus the top three individuals not from those teams, will qualify for the NCAA-II Championships on May 19-22 in Blaine, Wash.
