Drury's annual Campus Beautification Day, taking place this Thursday starting at 10 a.m., is a time for members of the student body to work with faculty and staff members on the various flower beds scattered throughout campus.
"The event started out three years ago in light of the first big icestorm," Karen Adams, campus operations and sustainability, said. "We lost so may flowers, trees and foliage, it took the entire Drury community to fix it."
The event which has been taking place every spring for the past three years allows campus organizations to work on the appearance of campus while also building teamwork.
Drury's new gardening club "Can U Dig It" will be using the event as a means to see if there is a volunteer basis for their group.
"Since we are planting at the President's house, we are intended to be a community builder group, we want students to be able to come to the President's garden," Melissa Shull, office coordinator for student development, said. "The plan for Thursday is to remove the overgrown grass, and prep for planting some vegetables."
