For the second year in a row Drury will be hosting the Self Employment in the Arts (SEA) OzArts conference, one of only six held across the country.

"In tough economic times, people who are practicing one of the art disciplines need to practice smart," said Kay Osborne, special instructor of arts administration and coordinator of the SEA OzArts Conference.

There are sessions for everyone from musicians to actors to accountants, according to Osborne.

"This is a conference meant to help artists," Osborne said. "I mean literary artists, visual artists, musicians, theatre. We're bringing successful artists in to help (the conference attendees) figure out how to earn a living as an artist."

The day long event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat., March 14 in Reed Auditorium in the Trustee Science Center. Registration that morning will take place from 9:30 - 10 p.m. during which time attendees can sign up for a 15 minute one-on-one session with practicing professional artists in their field. Sessions will take place later in the day.

The conference, which costs $50 for individuals, is free for Drury students because of an allocation from SGA and the Student Advocates for the Arts group. The fee covers a continental breakfast, lunch, workshops and sessions with professional artists.

Last year 150 people attended the SEA OzArts Conference, a great first year Osborne said, who explained that Seattle, another city that holds a similar conference, also had 150 people in attendance for their fifth annual conference.

"People from all over the region are invited and encouraged (to attend)," Osborne said.
