Last week for Focus the Nation-a nation wide event to raise awareness of global warming-10 tons of coal were dumped on Drury's campus. Everyday, mountains of coal are burned to supply the energy to run our daily lives, releasing tons of carbon dioxide and other gases.

Some tried and true (and easy) ways to reduce energy use include:
1. Change lights to more efficient com-
pact fluorescent light bulbs (or even better, LED).
2. Unplug electronics when not in use.
3. Air dry clothing.
4. Turn the lights out and the TV off
when you leave the room.
5. Use the power of nature! In the win-
ter, leave the shades open to allow natural sunlight to help heat your house.
6. Plant trees around your house, and
enjoy the cooling effect during the summer.
7. Only wash full loads of laundry and
dishes.
8. Instead of using the drying option on
the machine, allow dishes to air-dry.
9. It helps to take brief showers instead
of baths, and use cold water when washing clothes. It is estimated that 90% of the energy used when washing clothes is for heating water.
10. When going on extended trips, re-
member to change the thermostat accordingly.
